The Highlands Lifestyle

There is always something happening at The Highlands. Our Life Enrichment team works closely with our community to design a social calendar that is second to none!

We pride ourselves on providing opportunities for seniors to experience the best possible health and wellness, with an enriching, fulfilling lifestyle. The Highlands lifestyle embodies the tradition and history of life in Midcoast Maine, emphasizing choice and independence.

Our Very Own Meet Up Groups

The Highlands has more than a dozen special interest groups and committees, from outdoor adventures to learning French to discussing a good book. Whatever your interests, we have a group for you. And if one doesn’t exist yet, we are happy to help you find like-minded residents to start a group or committee.

Get up and Go

We are committed to the physical, historical and cultural exploration of Maine, and our approach is simple. We find the absolute best that Midcoast of Maine has to offer and make it easy and accessible for our residents. Let us do the planning and you do the rest! From Bar Harbor to the Portland waterfront, our event planners and transportation team make it easy.

Entertainment

The Highlands maintains relationships with local top talent and keeps the calendar full with outside professionals performing at The Highlands for our very own private shows.

Keep it Green

ELCThe Highlands’ Go Green committee has earned its reputation. On its way to being nationally recognized, the “GoGreenies” and the community at large have tapped into the concept of “strength in numbers” and set the stage for The Highlands to become an industry leader in sustainability.

Fit For Life

Find out why the physicians at Mid Coast Health Group call The Highlands residents “the most physically fit and emotionally well” group they know. Our brand new, state-of-art Fitness Center offers unique group fitness classes, 24-hour access to our fitness equipment, yoga, Tai Chi, personal training and more. Residents enjoy a choice of open swim and water recreation classes in our indoor saltwater pool, always heated to a comfortable 86 degrees.

Arts, Culture and History

Maine offers some of the country’s most fascinating connections to history and the art that embodies and captures the period in timeless fashion. The Highlands is one of the single largest contributors and sponsors of local museums, civic organizations and cultural performances. From the Maine Maritime Museum to the Portland Symphony, to the Topsham Library and to Maine State Music Theater, our community directly participates in almost every major social and cultural event on the Midcoast.

Dine in Style

The Highlands is home to world class dining, but sometimes an occasion calls for that extra touch. We proudly offer Distinctive Dining in our Historic Holden Frost Home. While reservations are required, the only necessary attire is a great appetite and a willingness to form some incredible relationships over a good meal!

For the more adventurous, join us on a mystery dinner, one of our most popular events. Our very own driver will pick you up at your doorstep to enjoy a no-questions-asked adventure.

Visit our dining page to learn more about The Highlands dining opportunities and to see what’s on the menu this week.

What’s Next?

It’s up to you! Our Life Enrichment team is always looking for great suggestions. Whether it’s starting your own group or joining another, requesting a special event or hosting your own party, our team can make it happen.
