Assisted Living

The Highlands was the first retirement community in the Mid Coast region to offer Assisted Living, which has only been in this country for about 15 years. The concept is to bridge a gap that so many slip into when their health starts to fail. It’s for the person who is no longer able to live alone, but not ready for a nursing home. Residents have their own private one-bedroom apartment with kitchenette and a full bath, all handicap-accessible, and with all the services just outside the door. That includes licensed staff on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Medication management, weekly housekeeping with linen service is included, along with three delicious chef-prepared meals a day. A life enrichment program provides plenty of activities and special fitness programs designed to meet the residents’ needs. Cadigan Lodge is for those needing assisted living due to physical problems. The separate, free-standing building has its own gracious dining room, living room with fireplace, a well-stocked library, activities room and even a full-service hair salon. Transportation to different events, as well as medical appointments are provided. (See Cadigan Lodge to learn more) Governor King Community is for those residents living with memory loss, such as Alzheimer’s and other dementia. Named after Maine’s first governor, Williams King, these are private, one-bedroom apartments with staff available ‘round the clock in a secure and caring environment. The same services and amenities available in Cadigan Lodge are offered here as well, but with a resident-focused life enrichment program and staff geared towards the special needs of memory loss residents.
