Are many residents at The Highlands from Maine or elsewhere?

The Highlands is home to many residents from within the state of Maine, as well as residents from around the nation.

Are pets allowed?

Yes, pets are welcome!

Is transportation available at The Highlands?

The Highlands concierge transportation service is available for trips to shopping, the symphony, local concerts, lectures, and other area events. Transportation to medical appointments can be arranged.

What are the additional costs I should expect moving to The Highlands?

Home owners living in The Estates, Town Hall Village, Benjamin Porter House and Holden Frost House pay a single monthly fee that includes real estate taxes, ground lease payments, maintenance expenses, property, casualty and liability insurance, management fee, activity and fitness programs and a replacement reserve fund.

Residents who prefer to rent within the Maine Lodge pay a single monthly fee that includes maintenance and grounds keeping, housekeeping services, chef prepared meals, snow removal, individually controlled heat & air conditioning, property insurance, 24 hour emergency response and access to all Maine Lodge common areas and amenities, including indoor heated pool, fitness programs, hair salon, library, and calendar of planned recreational opportunities, along with scheduled transportation

Residents who prefer to rent within Cadigan Lodge or Governor King pay a single monthly rental fee that includes 24 hour nurse and aide support, 24 hour personal care assistance, medication supervision/administration, three meals daily, transportation, special activities & fitness programs, individually controlled heating & air conditioning, housekeeping & maintenance, linen & laundry service, access to on-campus hair salon and cable TV hook-ups.

What are my obligations toward property taxes?

Property taxes are included in the monthly rental fee or monthly co-op fee.

What if my spouse requires assistance with daily needs?

The Highlands residents benefit from priority access to our assisted living residence, Cadigan Lodge. Whether short-term or long-term care is needed, we can develop a program to meet individual needs.

What if I require specialized care after surgery?

Respite care at Cadigan Lodge or Governor King Community is designed to meet the needs of short-term residents needing assistance following surgery, illness or to provide a much needed temporary break from the often exhausting challenges faced by the family caregiver.  

Is assistance on moving day available?

Yes, new residents have flexibility in scheduling two free hours of handyman services from the dedicated staff in the Maintenance Department. Schedule them for the day of your move or wait until you’ve been in a few days and need help with picture hanging or furniture moving.
